OPA & Aveley Primary Science Club

After school on Thursday, Mr Gold and Mrs Jemedze visited Aveley primary school along with three super Science Ambassadors from Yr 7. This week, the students investigated circuits and found out how series and parallel circuits affect the brightness of the bulbs. We look forward to next week when the students will be investigating Acids and Alkalis with Mrs Thacker and Ms Ryan.

Science Club at Aveley Primary

On Thursday 24th January, the first session for the KS2-3 OPA Science Club at Aveley Primary School took place. The Science club is delivered in collaboration by Mr Sisterson, the Aveley Primary Science Lead teacher, and the OPA Science team. For the very first session of the new afterschool club, which will run every Thursday at 3:10 – 4pm, the students were able to investigate animal and plant cells under the microscopes. Ormiston Park Academy’s Science Team Visit Aveley Primary Science teachers from Ormiston Park Academy, in Aveley, paid a visit to Year 5 and 6 pupils at local Aveley Primary School on Wednesday 12 December to deliver practical science lessons with a difference. Ormiston Park Academy Hosts Special Event for Year 8 Girls Ormiston Park Academy, in Aveley, were delighted to join up with the West Ham Foundation in December to host an exciting event highlighting the importance of positive female role models. All girls in Year 8 at the academy, which is sponsored by Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT), gathered for a female-only session focused on student wellbeing as well as individual goals and aspirations. OPA Science Team visit Aveley Primary School

Year 5 and 6 students at Aveley Primary School had lots of fun taking part in science practicals on Wednesday 12th December. Ms Thacker and  Ms Ryan from OPA Science department ran the practical sessions at Aveley Primary school, which involved the Year 5 pupils carefully carrying out the exciting chemistry practical "Hydrogen Pop Tests". The Year 6 students reinforced their knowledge and understanding of the heart and circulatory system, a KS2 topic they have just completed with Mr Sisterson, by performing heart dissections! Commedia characters take over Royal Opera House Thurrock Trailblazer school, Ormiston Park Academy STUDENTS at Ormiston Park Academy got lessons in comedy and characterisation over three days when artists from Thurrock-based theatre troupe The Complete Commedia Company visited the school. Bernadette Wakeling and Alex Mangan from Complete Commedia ran workshops in commedia dell’arte, the 16th century Italian style of theatre. 65 students from three classes from Years 7, 8 and 9 took part in the physical theatre and movement workshops. Ormiston Park Academy Champions Global Thinking

Year 8 students at Ormiston Park Academy in Aveley enjoyed an exciting trip to the USA as part of the Think Global programme ran by Learning Workz. The unique programme gave Ormiston Park students the opportunity to team up with students from other local schools and to participate in a range of activities focused around ‘global thinking’. Students who took part were encouraged through these activities to think about how their actions as an individual play out in a wider setting.
