Ormiston Park celebrates student GCSE successes
Students and staff at Ormiston Park Academy are celebrating today as the number of students leaving them with 5 A* – C grades including English and maths has increased.
Additionally, outcomes in nearly all subjects have improved. Of particular note, the number of students securing the top grades in English and Mathematics has increased. More students are also taking and succeeding in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, as well as subjects including Modern Foreign Languages, History, Geography and Statistics.
The school is working hard to increase the aspirations of students, and the Principal thinks it is their unshakeable belief in their ability that has underpinned their achievements.
As well as increased achievement across the board, there have been some fantastic individual success stories:
Chantelle Mhone achieved 5 A grades and 6 B’s, achieving As in both English and Maths
George Repole achieved 1A*, 3As and 4 B’s, including an A* in Maths and an A in Statistics
Sharon Imonode achieved 5 A’s, 2B’s, and 3 C’s, with As in both Biology and Chemistry
Jordan Ferdinand achieved 2 A*’s, 3 B’s and 4 C’s, including A* grades in Maths and Statistics
On the results, the school’s principal said:
“We would like to congratulate students for their hard work, and are pleased that they have been duly rewarded. There are some lovely success stories today.”
“We are committed to continuing to drive forward improvements at the school, and ensure all students reach their potential.”
Sixth Form Success 2015
The Academy is proud of the hard work and results of our Sixth Formers. This year sees a cohort of students completing Level 3 Vocational courses that is double the size of previous years and with a 100% success rate. Students have taken a widening range of courses from Multimedia and Engineering through to Business Studies and Applied Science, and are again benefiting from our innovative collaboration with South Essex College.
The ‘Average Point Score’ per student has increased, and the number leaving us with 3 or more qualifications has been quadrupled. Many students have achieved Distinctions in Sport, Business, Sciences and Arts. We are also thrilled that the grades of our first Performing Arts students indicate impressive improvements since their results at the age of sixteen.
We would like to wish all students the best as they leave us and go on to employment or University
“Standards of achievement are rising” at Ormiston Park
In Ormiston Park’s latest Ofsted report inspectors have noted the significant progress that has been made at the school since September 2014.
Following a two day inspection, Ofsted noted that “teaching is improving” and “standards of achievement are rising” at Ormiston Park, with pupils praised for being “almost unfailingly polite, sociable and co-operative.”
Overall the school has been classified in the Requires Improvement category, but inspectors identified “strong capacity” within the new leadership team to “drive forward rapidly the necessary improvements.”
Principal Huw Derrick said:
“It is my ambition to lead Ormiston Park to become an Outstanding Academy for the local community.
“As the latest Ofsted report recognises, our new leadership team is already having a significant impact. We still have a lot of work to do, but we are absolutely committed to driving improvement.
“I look forward to continuing to build on the progress we have made across this academic year and beyond.”
Executive Principal, Julie Bloor, added:
“Every day it is our priority to deliver a fantastic education for students at Ormiston Park.
“Working with teachers, Governors and the Leadership Team, we are united in our mission to achieve the highest standards and give students the best start in life.”
