Following a full exploration of the work we are doing in our CPRE and wider curriculum I am proud announce that Ormiston Park Academy has been awarded the Diversity Mark. The citation reads:
‘In recognition of the commitment by the school leadership team to preventing extremism and achieving excellence in the spiritual, moral, social and cultural education of all students, whilst striving for equality of educational outcomes and a focus on a global educational perspective, that enables students to respect difference and value diversity.’
I am extremely pleased to announce two exciting collaborations with West Ham United.
As you will see from banners above we are introducing a Football Academy for both men and ladies aged 16-18 in September 2017 . This will afford students access to a top quality football development programme within the framework of our existing Sixth Form provision. The opportunities working in partnership with a premiership Club are obvious and include potentially progressing to study for an Applied Community Sport Degree at the University of East London.
In addition, we are now operating as their Community Sports Hub School in Thurrock. This joint venture will see two full time Community Hub Officers working in the Academy throughout the year. In term time they will be supporting student progress in academic subjects during the day, running an extensive programme of sporting enrichment activities/coaching programmes after school, and in the evenings and weekends promoting the community use of our fantastic facilities. During the holiday periods they will be running a varied programme of community sports activities for people of all ages and abilities.
We have been lucky with good weather to date but please ensure that you keep aware of potential bad weather and take the necessary steps to keep warm dry and safe, in particular on your journey to and from the Academy.
In the event of severe weather conditions messages will be posted here by 7:00am and broadcast via local news media throughout the days affected.
Rivers of the World
Students at the Academy have recently been involved in a British Council project called Rivers of the World. They produced art work based around the River Thames which was on display on the Embankment outside the Tate Modern alongside work from schools from around the world. We took the students involved into London to view their work and to attend a private view event at City Hall where we received recognition for all the students hard work. They also had the opportunity to visit Tate Modern. It was a great day and I would like to congratulate students on their hard work and their excellent conduct on the day.
