On the evening of Thursday 17th March OPA took three year 10 students, Zoe Reeman, Molly Groves and Daisy Deacon to South Essex College at the Thurrock Campus to attend the awards evening for Thurrock’s Next Top Boss. Since October, students have been working on producing concepts for local businesses to incorporate into their future plans and tonight the winners were announced.
On arrival at the auditorium, the atmosphere was amazing, everyone was buzzing and excited. Our students were discussing how they would use the prize money if they won. It was such a lovely sight to see our students conduct and present themselves in a business and professional manner.
The start of the event was for the individual awards where each business partner spoke about the students they had worked with and then identified who they had awarded. Mark Sexton of the Lakeside Hammers chose Zoe Reeman for her quality in leadership skills and dedication to get ‘Ormiston through the checked flag in time’. Zoe received her award on stage with grace and pride.
The next awards were for the first team, which were present by Essex and Suffolk Water. They spoke a little about the task they had set and some of the amazing entries they had received. Although our students did not win the award they recognised and celebrated the success of Grays Convent.
The final award of the evening was the business award. Our students had really enjoyed this part of the challenge and you could see them getting nervous as the business partners shared the entrants’ great work. Unfortunately our students did not win the overall award but did recognise and celebrate the success of Gable Hall students.
At the end of the evening our students were given an envelope which contained a certificate of participation and a ticket to watch The Lakeside Hammers when their season starts. On the journey home the girls were buzzing about the evening and talking about the next project which was hinted at during the evening. The staff at OPA are so proud of the girls and are excited to start work on the next project.
