As part of the Numeracy programme, OPA hosted a Puzzle Challenge Day which incorporated thinking skills, team skills and communication skills. The main purpose of the day was to raise our students’ own expectations of what they can achieve.
The Puzzle Challenge Day consisted of between three and five programmes with up to 50 students in each session. The students encountered a variety of challenges, most of which were solved within a few minutes, but which required each team to work together and carefully develop strategies in order to find a solution. If the temptation to give up started to appear, the programme taught the students how to persevere, put their own skills to better use as part of a team and overcome difficulties by approaching problems from different perspectives.
