Ormiston Park Student wins Microsoft Office Championship for second year in a row

For the second year in a row a student from Ormiston Park Academy (OPA), part of the Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT), has won the Microsoft Office UK championships.

Year 10 student, Logan Cooper, earned himself the 2016 title stealing the crown from the 2015 UK champion and fellow OPA student, Alfie Fuller-Burgess.

The championship is a nationwide competition which tests students’ skills on Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Winners not only gain the highly-esteemed accolade of ‘UK Champion’, but also win the fantastic opportunity to join national winners from across the globe in the Microsoft Office World Championships.

This year the final will be held at Walt Disney World, Orlando, Florida, where Logan will take on top competitors from all over the world.

OPA now houses not only one UK Champion, but two, winning for two consecutive years – a real testament to the delivery of IT education at the academy.

OPA’s IT work was formally recognised when it was awarded ‘Centre of Excellence’ status by Prodigy Learning in recognition of its exceptional performance equipping students with digital skills and qualifications.

OPA Principal, Huw Derrick, said:

“We are incredibly proud of Logan for this incredible achievement. He epitomizes everything we strive for at OPA where, as well as promoting excellence academically, we work hard with our students to nurture and develop all their other talents too.

“We wish him every success in the upcoming World Championships and look forward to seeing many other OPA students follow in his and Alfie’s footsteps.”
