Great start to this years OPA science club where Miss Ryan, Miss Raymont and Miss Thacker helped out our young scientists from Aveley Primary to identify their own cheek cells under a microscope! Each Tuesday, the students attending the Science afterschool club get to carry out a different Science practical, learning to different lab techniques and practical skills.
Tuesday 11th June - OPA 7 Aveley Primary Science Club Last week, Miss Ryan and Mr Thorne investigated indicators with the OPA Science Ambassadors and the Aveley Primary school students. Each Tuesday, the students attending the Science afterschool club get to carry out a different Science practical, learning to different lab techniques and practical skills.
This Saturday is the very last of our Saturday Science Revision Sessions with our current Year 11s. Mr Gold will be providing Paper 2 Chemistry and Physics revision from 10am to 1pm in room 36. The focus will be required practicals and key target questions. Triple and Combined Science students are both invited. Lunch will be available at 1pm.
Another fun and engaging Science club activity this week at Aveley Primary School. OPA Science teacher Miss Chan, and Science technician Patsy Martin, were supported by some of our wonderful Science Ambassadors. Lots of fun was had by all and students learned how thermal energy can cause pressure changes in a container.
On Thursday 7th March, Science teachers Miss Chan and Mr Thorne visited Aveley Primary to deliver our weekly afterschool Science club. This week we were making ice cream from milkshake using only ice, salt and science! Thank you to our year 7 students who supported the session and Patsy Martin, one of our science technicians, for sorting all the materials needed.
As part of British Science Week 2019, year 8 and 10 students will have the opportunity to speak in a live chat with real scientists and engineers. Year 8 students will be speaking with engineers in the Space Zone and year 10 students will be speaking with scientists in the Drug Discovery Zone. Students have the chance to ask them anything to do with their current research and the importance of their research for today and the future, their experiences in school, college, university and work, or simply their hobbies and interests. On Thursday 28th February, OPA Science teacher, Miss Ryan and one of our amazing Science technicians, Patsy Martin, visited OPA Primary School to deliver a food testing practical. The students in Years 3 - 6 from the primary school tested different foods to find out if they contain starch, sugars, protein and fats. Some of our wonderful Science Ambassadors supported this week's session.
