Ormiston Park Academy is a ‘good’ school

Ofsted judged Ormiston Park Academy to be good when it was inspected in April 2017.

What Ofsted said about us:

“Leaders, including governors and the Ormiston Academies Trust, have created a culture of high expectations and rapid, sustainable improvement.”

“Leaders have strong systems for supporting the personal development and well-being of pupils, particularly those who are vulnerable.”

“Pupils, many of whom enter the school with attainment well below their peers nationally, make good progress from their individual starting points.”

“Pupils who have special educational needs and/or disabilities are supported very well in the school’s ASCEND centre. They make good progress.”

Above all, the report found that students “are proud of attending Ormiston Park Academy” and through our curriculum and broad extra-curricular activities, students’ “wider development is catered for well.” It praised the excellent development of our literacy curriculum and progress in supporting students with SEND through intensive and encouraging action from leadership and the wider Trust community.

Beyond this, the report highlighted other positives:

  • Curriculum: “leaders have identified the essential building blocks of knowledge” that students need to and teachers help students to embed key concepts in their learning.
  • Literacy: staff support students who are learning to read effectively, through a structured phonics programme and impactful one-to-one support. Ofsted found that students’ “confidence in discussing texts is increasing” and they “value reading for pleasure.”
  • SEND provision: “leaders are delivering training to improve staff’s understanding of students’ needs and how to adapt the curriculum”, through specific student support plans.
  • Behaviour: students “demonstrate positive and respectful behaviours”. , are “proud of the fact they have won an award for their social action” and value diversity and democracy.
  • Students’ development: students “benefit from opportunities they would not ordinarily have” and “appreciate having leadership opportunities” such as being mental health champions and representing their peers through ‘Park Life’.
