At Ormiston Park Academy, we understand the importance of Careers Education and Guidance and pride ourselves on the high quality of provision that we offer our students as part of our academy ethos “Believe and Achieve”.

Careers are now increasingly seen not as being ‘chosen’ but as being constructed through the series of choices about learning and work that people make throughout their lives.

We have an extensive Careers Education Programme on offer to our students, which is delivered through a wide range of activities and agencies.  This is partly through our CPRE programme and students’ tutor time, with significant support from Local Enterprise Partners. We also offer an extensive programme of visits to and by local colleges and universities.  All students receive impartial information, advice and guidance from  Thurrock Careers. It is through this Careers Education Programme we aim to raise the aspirations of all our students and help them to reach their career ambitions.

We measure and assess the impact of our careers programme on our students through:

  • Destinations data for both Post-16 and Post-18 students
  • School Development Plan evaluation
  • Surveys/questionnaires/feedback from a range of stakeholders

Careers information published on the website is regularly updated with a full annual review at the end of each academic year.

Letter from the Principal re retirement

November 6th, 2019|

Dear Parent/Carer,

I firstly want to welcome you and your child back to the academy after what I hope has been a restful and enjoyable half term break.

I also wanted to write to you today to inform you that I have made the decision to retire at the end of the academic year, having proudly served as Principal of Ormiston Park Academy for many years.

I first joined the school – which was then Aveley Secondary School, before later becoming Belhus Chase Specialist Humanities College – as Deputy Headteacher in 2004. During my fifteen years here, it has been both a pleasure and a privilege to support the many children and young people who have come through our school doors.

It is with great sadness that I will be leaving the academy, but I am so proud of how far we have come and of all the great milestones and achievements that we have reached together. Building Ormiston Park Academy to be the positive, proud and prosperous learning environment it is today has been a huge team effort, and some of my greatest career highlights have been at our academy.

There are so many things I am proud of, including leading our successful transition to become Ormiston Park Academy and join the Ormiston Academies Trust family in 2009 – a move which continues to significantly benefit our students, staff and wider school community. Additionally, designing and officially opening our state-of-the-art new building in 2013 which has given our students the opportunity to learn and develop in an inspiring and high-quality learning environment. And finally, achieving our Good Ofsted rating in 2017, with inspectors praising the high expectations and culture that we have all created – giving our students the very best possible chance to succeed.

The positive and upward journey of the academy, however, would not have been possible without the invaluable support of the parent body, and the collective hard work of the students, senior leadership team, staff, Board of Governors and our sponsor, OAT. I would like to extend my thanks and gratitude to you all, as Ormiston Park Academy would not be the school it is today without you all.

As the academy continues on its successful journey, we are launching a recruitment process to appoint a high calibre Principal whose vision and passion will match our high expectations for the academy and your children.

Once appointed, I will be working closely, alongside our Board and the Trust, to support the transition of the new Principal, who will be starting in the new 2020/21 academic year.

We will keep you updated on the recruitment process, and in the meantime, I would like to thank you once again for your continued support over the years. It has truly been a pleasure to be the Principal of the academy, working alongside such talented children and staff, and I will continue to follow Ormiston Park Academy journey closely in the years to come.

Yours sincerely,

Mr Huw Derrick

Principal
