A spokesperson for the Academy said:
“We can confirm that an incident took place at the academy yesterday morning, involving one student carrying a prohibited item in their possession. As soon as we became aware, we took immediate action to contain the situation, in which no student or staff member was hurt, and we informed all the relevant authorities. The item in question was recovered immediately and the student involved was taken off-site.
“We have been providing support to the small number of students who were made aware of the prohibited item and have also spoken at length with their parents to address any concerns. As well as undertaking an internal investigation to further strengthen the robust safeguarding procedures already in place, we have also been supporting the authorities with their ongoing investigations. Given this, we are unable to comment further on the incident at this stage.
“The safety, security and wellbeing of all students and staff at the academy is our number one priority, and we are treating this with the utmost seriousness. We would like to thank parents and the school community for their support and would encourage any parent/carer with any questions or concerns, to get in touch with the academy directly.”
