Welcome to OPA6, Ormiston Park Academy’s Sixth Form. Here, our vision is to provide all students on entry with a personalised pathway that guides all to achieve their aspirations at the end of their studies.
Our Sixth form provides an increasing range of academic and vocational courses to meet the needs of all students, together with educational, social, physical and enrichment opportunities. OPA6 encourages all students to develop as independent, confident and responsible adults, prepared to start university, apprenticeships or their new careers.
Students receive support and guidance in planning their future from their Personal Tutor and Careers Advisor who are available on a daily basis and can meet with parents and the Director of Sixth Form for advice. Students are guided to attend university open days either independently or as part of OPA6 visits. Professionals from the workplace are invited to present to students to broaden their knowledge of potential careers and develop links for work experience. All OPA6 students participate in voluntary service, either in the Academy or local community.
OPA6 students have access to a dedicated area which contains computer facilities, personal devices, state of the art technology, quiet study areas and a refreshments area. Students participate in directed study in all areas of the Academy, taking advantage of the wide range of opportunities available using the innovation room, theatre, purpose built sports areas, lecture theatres and technology areas. Staff are encouraged to develop students into independent learners using a wide range of tools and teaching styles, providing personalised support throughout their study.
OPA6 provides a valuable continuity for our students in the lower Academy, ensuring students who choose to continue their educational journey with us are fully supported and a comprehensive understanding of their preferred methods of study are catered for. We also welcome students from other schools and academies to join the OPA6 family, they settle in quickly, developing new friendships and take advantage of the opportunities on offer to support their experience here.
OPA6 is continuing our excellent partnership with South Essex College (SEC) to provide all students with access to a further range of courses on offer at their Southend, Basildon and Thurrock campuses. Students can study full time at SEC and return to OPA6 to participate in the opportunities at the Academy on their non-lecture days.
Ormiston Park Academy was inspected by Ofsted in April 2015, with notable positive statements including:
The quality of teaching has improved considerably during the academic year; rates of progress have accelerated; students receive impartial and helpful careers advice; and receive very good information about how to stay safe and healthy.
For enquiries relating to joining OPA6 please contact the Director of Sixth Form. We look forward to welcoming you and being a part of your journey to excellence.
